چکیده

the mobile node moves from one access point to another, the active connections will not be badly dropped if the handoff is smooth and if there are sufficient resources reserved in the target access point. In a 5x5 grid of access points, within a 6x6 grid of regions, by location tracking and data mining, we predict the mobility pattern of mobile node with good accuracy. The pre-scanning of mobile nodes, along with pre-authenticating neighbouring access points and pre-reassociation is used to reduce the scan delay, authentication delay and re-association delay respectively. The model implements first stage reservation by using prediction results and does second stage reservation based on the packet content type, so that sufficient resources can be reserved when the mobile node does the handoff to the next access point. The overall mobility management scheme thus reduces the handoff delay. The performance simulations are done to verify the proposed model.

A Hidden Node Aware Network Allocation Vector Management System for Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks

Many performance evaluations for IEEE 802.11distributed coordination function (DCF) have been previouslyreported in the literature. Some of them have clearly indicatedthat 802.11 MAC protocol has poor performance in multi-hopwireless ad hoc networks due to exposed and hidden nodeproblems. Although RTS/CTS transmission scheme mitigatesthese phenomena, it has not been successful in thoroughlyomit...

On the Signaling Analysis of SIP-Based Terminal Mobility Management within IEEE 802.11 and 802.16 Heterogeneous Networks

This paper analyzes the SIP-based mobility management behavior within a heterogeneous network interconnecting IEEE 802.11-based wireless local area network (WLAN) and IEEE 802.16-based wireless metropolitan area network (WMAN). Our work focuses on signaling processes, during handoff between 802.11 and 802.16 networks. Particularly, the MAC layer technologies of 802.11 and 802.16 are examined in...

Handover Optimization with User Mobility Prediction for Femtocell-based Wireless Networks

Prediction of user mobility can assist resource and mobility management of wireless and mobile networks by optimizing handover execution, resource utilization, and so on. There have been extensive studies on mobility prediction for handovers between macrocells but little work for femtocellbased networks yet due to their complicated characteristics. This paper proposes handover optimization meth...

Network based Load-Aware Mobility Management in IEEE 802.11 Wireless Mesh Networks

One major concern for mobile networks consists of finding efficient ways of handling user mobility so that the handover process has minimum effect on users’ ongoing sessions. Although COAP provides an efficient way for mobility management in IEEE 802.11 wireless mesh networks, it does not control load among multiple MAPs in the network. Thus, in many cases, the attached MAP is overloaded, and e...
